Retired Police Officer Steve Andretich has 13 years of experience working in Law Enforcement in Northern California with the Emeryville and Richmond Police Departments (RPD).   Steve has instructed Defensive Tactics, Use of Force, Taser and Less Lethal Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Tactical Communications and is CA POST Instructor Certified in each of these areas of instruction.  Steve has also been Certified as a Peacekeeper Products Collapsible baton instruction by the supplier.  In 2015, Steve completed POST IDI Level 1 Instructor Certification and POST IDI Level 2 Certifications in Adult Learning and Course Development and Training.

 

Steve Andretich has taught more than 100 courses of instruction since 2012 in Police Officer Training.  Steve has taught to recent academy graduates, lateral new hires, non-sworn employees, and for Advanced Officer training programs.  As a Field Training Officer he has logged 100's of training and evaluation hours.

 

As a member of the RPD Personnel and Training Section, Steve Andretich successfully authored Expanded Course Outlines and Hourly Distributions for the RPD Defensive Tactics, Less Lethal (Taser), and Tactical Communications Courses to ensure POST Certifications for all Sworn Personnel.  Steve co-authored many Agency Specific PowerPoint Presentations, organized and scheduled numerous entry level and lateral police employment tests, and participated in dozens of Oral Board Interview examinations.

 

Steve Andretich was a member of the RPD Background Investigations unit and authored more than 25 complete POST approved investigations for sworn and non-sworn personnel.  Steve was invited  by Command Personnel to participate on the RPD Administrative Use of Force Review Panel.   Steve was a recognized expert in the areas of Arrest and Control, Use of Force, Police Policy, Graham vs. Connor and UOF Documentation.   His expertise in tactics, department policy, state law, and case law were widely recognized at RPD and within Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.

 

Steve Andretich authored and launched the RPD body worn camera program in 2015, and provided the draft policy for review, training materials, and acted as the lead instructor for the deployment.  During his training tenure, Steve engaged in collateral assignments including Crime Scene Investigator and was a member of the department’s homicide unit CSI Cadre working homicide scenes and autopsy evidence collection and documentation.   Steve retired in January of 2017 and continued his work in the force training and the Project Engineering fields simultaneously.

Steve Andretich is a National Rifle Association (NRA) Certified Pistol Instructor and NRA Range Safety Officer, and he teaches CCW and Use of Force in IL and neighboring states.  Steve is NRA Certified to teach the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Courses, and the NRA Refuse to Be a Victim Curriculum.   Steve is also a Certified USCCA Pistol Instructor and his CCW Classes are valid in several Midwest States.
